Most popular social networking site Facebook has announced that it will adopt hashtags, one of the most recognisable features of social media Twitter, in a move to position its web service track the happenings and trending topics.
Facebook says it’s only “beginning to roll out” the feature, so you might not see #facebookhashtags
right away. Facebook says hashtags have become “a vital part of popular culture” and since it has seen users using them on the social network organically, it has decided to actually implement the feature.
According to a blogpost by Facebook, hashtags will be clickable on Facebook. Similar to other services like Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr, or Pinterest, hashtags on Facebook allow you to add context to a post or indicate that it is part of a larger discussion. When you click on a hashtag in Facebook, you’ll see a feed of what other people and Pages are saying about that event or topic.
